Bruce Smith - Egg with shadow
I tried this shot using different aperture and ISO settings and checked the histogram before and after each shot trying to get one I preferred for its focus on the subject, depth of tonal range, and detail in the light and dark areas. This shot (with its slight blurring in the background) turned out to be the best, even though it's histogram still showed some loss of detail in the whitest areas on the egg. It was shot from a tripod using a Panasonic Lumix f/1.7 20mm lens, wide open for 1/30th of a second with an ISO setting of 200 and White Balance on Manual.
I'm so glad you thought of using a subject like that, Bruce. Also that you gave us the specs on how you did it. It clearly demonstrates different shades of white vs. black and direction of light and shadow. It looks simple, but that takes thought and intention to get am image like that.
ReplyDeleteYou know what else is cool about this? It reminds me of the yin yan symbol the way the shadows complement each other.
