The Childhood photo is immediately captivating, with a very strong center of interest -- those eyes! Perhaps if the background were blurred it would direct even more focus to the child's face, and eliminate some slightly distracting patterns in the background.
Holy crow! The child portrait is BEAUTIFUL! I don't know if I would blurr the background... I love those wild nature prints, and the way the wood grain is also stripey. It makes the boy look WILD lying on the floor like that. Maybe make one of each. Hard to choose. Beautiful how his eyes pop and the way the light lands on hair and flesh tones.
