It's interesting to see the two choices. I like the portrait version more as well. Yes, you can see more vivid blue sky, and also there is more of an emphasis on the vertical-ness of the trees and the parallel vertical-ness of the tire tracks on the road. I also like the manhole cover, for some reason. Maybe it gives more of a sense of depth? Or it makes us think more about transportation? I get more of a sense of the difficulty of TRAVEL--ohmigosh, icy roads--in the portrait one.
I like portrait format more.We can see more of the blue sky. And it gives an idea of moving towards the light. I like this shot.
